5 favorite mountain locations for engagements
engagement shoot at Jordan Pines
I love engagement photo shoots! They are SO FUN.
I also love the mountains…maybe even more than engagement photo shoots.
I LOVE it the most though when I can be in the mountains AND do engagement photoshoots!
Utah is one of the best places in the country for mountain engagement photos.
Within an hour of Salt Lake City you can find alpine lakes, dramatic peaks, quiet forests, and wide-open vistas that look incredible in photos. Whether you want something adventurous, romantic, or simple and natural, the Utah mountains provide an amazing backdrop!
Here are some of my go to spots for some great mountain scenery for engagements. Now, I’m saying engagements because they are on my mind but all of these spots are also great for Elopements, Family pictures, or Senior pictures.
Albion Basin
Catherine Pass at Albion Basin
Starting off with a Utah classic, and for good reason! The mountain views from Albion Basin are hard to beat.
Albion Basin refers to the area at the very top of Little Cottonwood Canyon. This spot can only be accessed by a dirt road managed by Alta ski area. There is a $10 fee to access the road.
There are several pull offs which are AMAZING for photoshoots. These are a couple favorites
Catherine's Pass
Cecret Lake trailhead
The area is beautiful year round but is most famous for the wildflowers which bloom here around mid to late July! Remember to be respectful of them!
2. Jordan Pines
The bridge at Jordan Pines
While we are on the subject of Utah classics, if Albion basin is the classic spot for little cottonwood canyon, then jordan pines is the classic spot for Big Cottonwood Canyon.
This is another spot with great mountain views. It is BUSY, but it's a big area so it's always possible to find your own little spot.
While Albion basin is only accessible in the summer, Jordan pines is accessible YEAR ROUND. I especially love coming here in the winter for a snowy, quieter vibe.
3. Trappers Loop
Trappers Loop
Okay now time to go north for a bit. Trappers loop is a personal favorite of mine. This loop is the road that connects the towns of Mountain Green and Huntsville. The road runs through the mountains right past Snowbasin ski resort. There are plenty of pull off options all along the road.
If you drive the whole loop, you can even go to Pineview reservoir in the town of Huntsville. This is another great spot for a lakeside photoshoot!
4. Deer Creek Reservoir
Sunset at Deer Creek
Speaking of lakeside photoshoots, Deer creek is a new go to for me in Utah county. A favorite for Summer boating and swimming in Utah County, Deer creek is empty in the winter. With great views of the lake and Mt. Timpanogos in the background, the shores. of deer creek offer great photo opportunities
This is another spot accessible year round and looks great in all weather conditions!
5. Buffalo Peak
A july evening at buffalo peak
Staying in Utah county, buffalo peak area is an instagram favorite. This spot has recently become well known for its incredible fall color, but it is beautiful in summer as well. It even gets some wildflowers in early to mid July!
This area is accessed by Kyhv peak road, which is only open from about mid April up until mid October. This first part of this road is accessible year round but the upper dirt road which leads to buffalo peak closes.
The views of Mt. Timpanogos from this location are pretty unbeatable.
Golden hour at Deer Creek
Now I bet you wanna get engaged huh? I hope these locations come in handy!
